about
The dark and passionate dance punk of J. Graves returns with "Leap Year II", a single in honor of February 29th and the song that saved the front person, Jessa Graves' life. It was the first song they had written after a four year break from music, a break that almost killed them. With a haunting, vulnerable thread tied tightly around each agonous note, "Leap Year II" takes the listener through a visceral experience of what Graves describes as navigating one of the worst years of their life.
Graves says with sadness in their eyes, a testament to the lingering ghosts of leap years past, "This song is about remembering. Leap Year is pain and growth and never forgetting where you came from so you'll never have to go back there again."
J. Graves will continue to release new versions of the song each leap year. A second version of the song (Leap Year III) along with a music video is set to release later in the spring to support their national Leap Year Tour.
lyrics
LEAP YEAR
All along the years they go
The years they go the same
Did you forget to write it down
Forget to spell your name
And oh my hands did take from you
The things that matter most
Did you forget that all along
That I was just your ghost
I've been here one thousand times before
You hate to sleep alone
And I hate to sleep alone
You found me just knocking at your door
Your were all alone
And I hate to be alone
Make believe
That the timing is right
Make believe
That you put up a fight
Cause everybody
Wants somebody too
To look at them
The way I look at you
And everybody wants somebody too
And everybody wants someone like you
All along the years they go
The years they go the same
Did you forget to write it down
Forget to spell your name
And oh my hands did take from you
The things that matter most
Did you forget that all along
That was just your ghost
So wait
In the corner for me
I'll be in the back
You'll see
So wait
In the corner for me
I'll be in the back
You'll see
Cause everybody
Wants somebody too
To look at them
The way I look at you
And everybody wants somebody too
And everybody wants someone like you
All along the years they go
The years they go the same
Did you forget to write it down
Forget to spell your name
And oh my hands did take from you
The things that matter most
Did you forget that all along
That I was just your ghost
