about
When 2020 began I was laser focused and finely tuned towards writing and doing everything in my power to generate momentum for J. Graves. I quickly had the bones for 4 songs - we thought the next release would be an EP and the foundational song writing was nearly done. Marauder was quickly formed. I was waiting for my heart break to sink in. “Can you feel it? Is it real yet? Can you feel it? Am I real yet”, the breakdown was the first thing written of “Marauder”. It’s just like me to take the blame, to villainize myself, and in thinking of the person I had hurt, that I had left, I named the song Marauder. It’s a person who raids and pillages and was feeling careless. In hindsight, and after tracking FOF, my anger became so obvious. The hurt I was waiting for manifested in a clear message that there was nothing left (a line I thought was directed at myself) and that I wanted everyone to know. The bridge of this song is such a painful admission. A beautiful moment of realization. Some things just aren’t going to work, no matter how hard you try, it will never be enough.
lyrics
Oh my my, I think about it every time you try
The words, the words, the words you threw around
Oh my my, I think about it every time you try
The words, the words, the words you threw around
And there won’t be nothing left when you come around
Oh my my, I think about it every time you try
The words, the words, the words you threw around
Oh my my, I think about it every time you try
The words, the words, the words you threw around
And there won’t be nothing left when you come around
Can you feel it?
Is it real yet?
Can you feel it?
Am I real yet?
You come to me undone
I call it off
And underneath it all
It’s not enough
You come to me undone
I call it off
And underneath it all
It will never be enough
Can you feel it?
Is it real yet?
Can you feel it?
Am I real yet?
Oh my my, I think about it every time you try
The words, the words, the words you threw around
Oh my my, I think about it every time you try
The words, the words, the words you threw around
And there won’t be nothing left when you come around
